Mostly deciduous, in this 11th French national park<\/strong>, they are representative of the limestone plateaux of northeastern France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the crossroads of continental and oceanic climatic influences, with Mediterranean and Alpine inputs, they boast up to fifteen tree species per hectare, beech being the most common. Also due to their age and almost continuous afforestation, they are home to numerous natural environments: marshes, limestone lawns, meadows, rich in rare species such as the Sabot de V\u00e9nus. While deer, roe deer and wild boar populations are abundant, there are also some remarkable species such as the wildcat and black stork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water is also very present, with 694 kilometers of rivers, numerous springs and wetlands.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A privileged witness to the close links between man and nature since Neolithic times, the forest harbors and protects numerous archaeological remains, and preserves the imprint of the work of monks in the Middle Ages, and of farming, forestry, hydraulic and metallurgical operations in different eras. The originality of the Forest National Park project lies in the strong and lasting presence of man and his activities throughout its territory, including a major forest-wood industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Forest Park aims to reconcile the preservation of this exceptional heritage with economic, social and cultural development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
